Texas Top Secret BBQ
I fell in love with barbecue as a teenager at a cook-off. There was fire, no bedtime, and a never-ending parade of food to try. For a kid, it was the dream.
That weekend taught me more than how to eat. It taught me how to learn. I listened. I soaked up whatever the pitmasters were willing to share. Over the years I collected those passed down secrets, then made them my own through trial and error standing over the coals, adjusting, failing, and trying again.
Fire always held me. Not just the heat, but the lore, the hidden techniques, and the way a pit is designed: airflow, steel, smoke path, the quiet engineering that turns raw meat into something people remember. Those same instincts followed me into aviation and aerospace. I grew up on stories of the SR-71 Blackbird and the Skunk Works teams that built what nobody thought possible. In that world I was taught to challenge the requirements, question the design, and dare to try it different.
Those two lives never stayed separate. The more I learned about classified programs and unconventional engineering, the more I looked at barbecue the same way: respect the tradition, then test it. Take the old secrets, mix them with better design, and see what happens when you refuse to cook the same way everyone else does.
Texas Top Secret BBQ is the result. It is pitmaster knowledge passed down, aerospace discipline applied to smoke and steel, and a standing invitation to keep learning. I’m happy to share the methods and the designs. Not as classified files, but as food, fire, and a little bit of the unexpected.
Cheers,
